Chris Dreger
Artist Bio
I have lived and painted in Oregon for over 25 years. I have taught painting, drawing and color theory in Oregon, along with digital art and design classes at 4 local colleges.
I am inspired by color and light in live settings, such as those experienced in Oregon and Washington’s fantastic vistas. Most of my recent landscape paintings have been one-session “plein air” paintings, meaning they were painted on site at one time, taking usually about 2 – 4 hours each.
I like to paint from life because of the endless information in nature from which to pick colors, shapes, and forms.
I also paint still life setups with lights, transparent and translucent objects and liquids, and well-worn/well-loved objects like old boots.
I have always painted portraits, preferably from life in one sitting. The human face, the center of consciousness, is endlessly fascinating.
I structure my paintings on the relationship between 2D and 3D movements in a composition, and the resonance between geometry, color, space and meaning.
I paint in oil, acrylic, encaustic, and several drawing mediums.
I price my paintings on materials and time, and I believe in creating fine art that is affordable by most people.
