Grand Opening: Grant Street Arch + Downtown Quiet Zone
The City of Canby invites the Canby community to attend the Grand Opening of the Grant Street Arch and Downtown Quiet Zone.
Please join the City of Canby on Thursday, November 2nd at the corner of NW 1st and N Grant Street. The grand opening event will begin at 6:00p. The event will feature speeches by City of Canby officials and city staff. After the honorary ribbon cutting, light refreshments will be served.
The Quiet Zone silences train horns at the Grant, Ivy, and Elm intersections in downtown Canby; however, should a train operator identify a potentially hazardous situation or feel that increased safety is needed, the train can blow the horn. The Quiet Zone requires additional safety striping and appropriate approvals from the railroad and ODOT.
The Grant Street Arch is uplit on both of the pillars anchoring the archway and will feature three historical plaques. The lighting displays can be changed throughout the year to highlight events, holidays, or even the Canby High School colors.
The City of Canby has continued accepting recommendations from the Canby community for a time capsule that is proposed to be installed in the Northwest pillar in the Grant Street Arch. For those with recommendations for items to be included in the time capsule, please fill out the short survey.
